Salam Alaykum WRWB
My name is Narjiskhatun Jaffer and recently I attended an event regarding Syeda Zainab (sa) with Zayir UK. The event created awareness in my heart concerning the immense difficulty people of Lebanon are subjected to, it was terrible to acknowledge just how many people were living under the poverty line and to see videos of their daily plight.
There is an absolute horrific situation out there with significantly reduced electricity provided by the national grid (less than an hour a week in some places) that coupled with freezing cold temperatures.
The record spike in the inflation rate has completely wiped out people's life long savings; the lack of increase in wages has meant that people's income now provide close to nothing.
Just to put numbers for further understanding, a couple of years ago 1500LL was 1USD and today close to 40,000LL is 1USD. People's salaries are still paid in LL and have not increased whatsoever, yet majority of items are sold in correlation to the dollar rate, which means that their salary gets them close to nothing.
Furthermore, the crisis is escalated by the shortage of medications and the hike in the prices of those available, meaning people suffering with illness cannot even source basic medications, it is deeply heartbreaking.
Moreover, more than 1 in 3 children are completely out of education and forced to work to provide for their families, this is very concerning as the impact will be generational. It is the absolute right of every human child that they receive minimum education.
Lets condole the Imam of our time (ajfs) by donating in the name of Lady Zahra (sa)!
