Kijana Kwanza (Young People First) is a grassroots project based in Moshi, Tanzania, that supports children and young people to access education and acquire new skills to prepare them for a future without poverty. We deliver a range of sponsorship programmes tailored to meet the different needs of children and young people, extending from secondary school to vocational training and apprenticeships. Whilst we encourage children to remain in their families or in a foster family, for those most at risk, our shelter provides a comfortable home, staffed by qualified staff and teachers. We also offer hostel accommodation on-site and in the community for our older students. Aside from the students who are sponsored by the organisation, our services reach many thousands of children, young people and their families, which include free and subsidised short courses, study and library facilities, hardship grants and interest-free loans, seasonal campaigns, community events and microfinance initiatives.
