The Ali Asghar Water Appeal projects are life changing projects. We like to call them WASH projects this stands for WAter, Sanitation and Hygiene.
The projects:
1. Tanzania Borewell – this project aims to drill 6 bore wells across five villages in Tanga region of Tanzania so that people can access clean water everyday. The water will also be connected to other places like schools, mosques and public areas. This means the people of these villages can have a glass of water wherever they are!
2. Pakistan Tube Well - this project aims to install a tube well in Parachinar, Pakistan, again this means that everyone in Parachinar will have clean drinking water.
Solar panels will also be set up to power the tube so that the water wells will work by themselves, so it’s sustainable!
The tube well is expected to provide water for 2,000 people daily, helping 60,000 people each month.
Sarah:
When I signed up for The Big Half I had no idea what I had got myself into. I'm not a runner, so I had no idea what 21km actually meant! The last couple of months have been like climbing a really steep, rocky mountain. This challenge is completely out of my comfort zone, I've had to push myself hard both physically and mentally to consistently get my trainers on and keep going.
The goal of being able to help provide clean water for people who are the most in need is what makes me not want to give up. AAWA is raising money for two particular projects based in Pakistan and Tanzania. Both very close to my heart as they are the birth places of my parents. (It does make me wonder if my children will be raising money for Watford and Edgware one day!)
I'm looking for at least 21 people to sponsor me £21 to reach my personal goal of £441. Can you spare just £21 for 21km?
Altaf:
Like Sarah, I am not naturally a runner. Whilst I have kept fit with football and other sports, getting through the mental barrier of consistent effort for a prolonged period has always been a challenge. The longest I have ever run is 10k.
Water is a basic necessity for all humanity. In this modern world, I firmly believe that no one should be without access to that. In that goal, I have supported AAWA since its inception. The work they have done across the world has been amazing.
