Bismillah
Dear Friends,
Salamun alaikum
I am collecting donations poor families and orphans in Karbala. Donations will go towards costs of basic living amenities such as household appliances (eg fridges, water heaters, AC coolers, heaters), marriage, school clothes, blankets, general living costs, rent and healthcare costs.
This appeal will be open for around 2 weeks as the funds will need to be sent to Karbala soon.
Jazaakum Allah Kahyr Al-Jazaa.

Background:
During my trip to Karbala in early 2011 for Ziyaarat al-Arbaeen, I was fortunate enough to visit several poor families and orphans. This gave me a small glimpse into the extremely difficult living conditions that some people are forced to endure.
The visit was made possible by a group of volunteers who dedicate their time to serving those in need. These volunteers began their efforts in Ramadan 2009 in Karbala, Iraq. They primarily support orphans and families living in poverty, providing basic necessities such as blankets, carpets, heaters, fans, refrigerators, air coolers and water heaters on an ad-hoc basis, as and when needed. They also contribute towards healthcare, marriage and rental costs, and distribute food during the holy month of Ramadan.
Some of the families they support live in severely underdeveloped informal settlements, often in abandoned areas with limited access to water, electricity and other basic amenities. Many of these families are internally displaced, having fled other parts of Iraq, particularly the southern provinces, because of the conflicts that have affected the country. Many are also uneducated or illiterate.
I was fortunate enough to visit some of these families. One of the first families I visited had seven orphans, mostly girls and one young boy who had been forced to leave school to desperately seek work. The conditions in which these families were living were extremely difficult by any standard, yet their resilience and dignity were deeply humbling.
Since 2011, through the generosity of many people and by the blessing of Allah, we have managed to raise funds every year to support this project and help those in need. What initially began as an annual appeal has now grown into several appeals each year. The number of donors has also increased significantly, allowing us to raise more funds and support more people.
Since my first visit in 2011, I have been fortunate enough to revisit many families and orphans during my Arbaeen trips.
May Allah reward everyone who contributes to this cause, and to every cause that seeks to help humanity.
