Launch Union CodeLab — Learn • Make • Present.
Give a child more than a class. Give them a craft.
Union CodeLab is a weekly club for Years 3–11 (ages ~7–16) where young people learn at their own pace, building real projects in coding, robotics, and digital creativity. Every week, they make something new — and stand up to present it with confidence.
Why this matters
Picture your child, quiet on day one. They think “coding is for other kids.” Ten weeks later they’ve built a step counter on micro:bit, customised a mini-game in Scratch, and calmly explain to the room how they made it. That moment — when a child realises “I can build what I imagine” — changes the path ahead: school choices, confidence, even future careers.
For us, this isn’t just “tech club.” It’s khidma in the language of today — serving our children with skills, curiosity, and courage. It’s sadaqah jārīyah through knowledge that keeps giving: when a child learns, they teach a sibling, help a friend, and one day serve their community.
What we’re building
- Self-paced, project-based learning: each learner follows a clear curriculum and moves at a pace that fits them — no one is left behind, no one is held back.
- Skills that stack: each lesson builds on the last — from events and loops to sensors and simple robotics.
- Fun + familiar tools: Scratch, micro:bit, Minecraft, Roblox — wrapped in practical challenges, hands-on making, and quick show-and-tells.
The gap your donation closes
We have the drive, the plan, and the team. What we don’t have enough of are the devices and kits that make this experience work for every child — especially those who can’t bring a laptop. That’s why we’re seeking one-off seed funding of £1,000 to buy the essentials and open our doors.
Pick what you’d like to fund 🎯
- £100 — Refurbished laptop
A reliable device so a child isn’t sharing or sitting out. - £40 — micro:bit kit
Turn code into moving, blinking, sensing real things. - £20 — Tools, storage & power
USB hubs, extension leads, labelled boxes — smooth sessions. - £10 — Craft materials
Card, tape, foil, Velcro, markers — fast prototyping every week. - £5 — Printed learner pack
A personal workbook + progress tracker for one pupil.
Choose the item you want to place into a child’s hands.
If we go beyond the goal, extra funds add more laptops/kits and seed a bursary pot so cost is never a barrier.
Built to sustain itself ♻️
This appeal is start-up only. After launch, CodeLab runs on a free taster + low per-session fee model, with bursaries for families who need them and trained volunteers gaining CV-worthy experience. Any surplus is reinvested into kits, materials, and bursaries — keeping the circle of benefit turning.
Be part of a child’s first “I built this” moment 🚀
Share this appeal 🔁 with family and friends.
Volunteer two hours a week 🤝 — we’ll train and support you.
Keep us in your duʿās 🤲 — and in your calendar for our first showcase, in shā’ Allāh.
Surah Tā Hā (20:114)
“And say, ‘My Lord, increase me in knowledge.’”
Knowledge opens hearts. Tools open doors. Your gift does both.
