Over 15 million people are in need of support to access safe water and sanitation. Of these, 8.7 million are in acute need. We are building bore wells to provide clean, safe and sustainable water supplies for families most in need in Yemen. ---- Described by the UN as ‘The worst man-made humanitarian crisis of our time’, the war in Yemen has turned a poor country into a humanitarian catastrophe. Already one of the most water-scarce countries in the world, the destruction of so much of the country’s infrastructure has left over 15 million people without access to safe and clean water. The effects of famine are further compounded by a lack of access to healthcare and medication, employment and clean, uncontaminated water which is leading to widespread and untreated illness. For this reason, already vulnerable children and elderly people are dying at record levels. One bore well can sustain up to 3,000 people per day, providing an average of 80,000 litres of clean water accessible 24 hours per day as it is installed with a solar-powered system.
