I've always been told that my Jido, Sayed Mohammad Taher Al-Hayderi was a noble man. A man of humility, kindness and generosity. But I've recently learned that he was so much more.

As we lay him to rest today, there are banners all over the city of Baghdad where he lived which read "Farewell to the father of orphans. You will forever be in our hearts".

My grandfather spent his entire life in the service of others and I'd like to fundraise for a project to carry on the work he loved and continue his legacy.

I'm fundraising for a centre in Baghdad which will teach quran and Islamic morals and ethics to orphans and children in my grandfather's home-city of Baghdad.

Please donate generously and recite a Surah Fateha for my beloved Jido.
